This section of the State HMP will provide a general overview of the State of West Virginia and helps us understand what is at risk from hazards across the State. The section will look at the following:
- History
- Government
- Physical Setting – geography, topography, hydrography and hydrology, and climate
- Demographics – population, age, socially vulnerable populations
- Economy
- State Assets, Infrastructure, Critical Facilities, and Community Lifelines
- Land Use and Development Trends
- Environmental resources
The information discussed in this section will guide the risk assessment as it evaluates where populations, infrastructure, and critical facilities are vulnerable to hazards, and to what degree injuries or damage may occur.
